“No longer naps… just sleep peacefully” – Chiragbhai Patel

Chiragbhai Patel’s weight struggle started way back. If you ask anyone in his family, they will say, “we do love our food!” His weight was fluctuating as he was trying on diet, and other weight loss tips. “I could lose weight, but couldn’t keep it off,” he says.

Mr Chiragbhai Patel

By the age of 42, Chiragbhai weighed 175 kg, had a BMI of 38.6, and was taking hands full pills daily to manage Hypertension, sleep apnea along with Grade III Obesity.

“I knew I had to do something drastic,” he says.

He had Obstructive Sleep Apnea getting worst day by day, which made him feel tired and inactive.

To avoid that fate, Chiragbhai took his doctor’s advice and attended an information session led by

Bariatric Surgeon Dr Parag Patel, MS, GI and Laparoscopic Surgery at Zydus Hospital’s Gobesity Centre.

He underwent surgery in December 2019, since then, he has lost more than 65 Kg and eliminated all medicines, except for vitamins and an over-the-counter pill for stomach acid. His cholesterol, and Hypertension are now normal. He no longer has obstructive sleep apnea, and his pain is gone. “Now I can sleep peacefully and everyone else also 😊.”

His Business Partner says he no longer naps, rarely sits during business visits now, and thinks more clearly.

“It was like waking from a fog,” Chiragbhai says. Now energized, he walks up to a mile a day, takes the stairs instead of the elevator.

But the highlight of his weight loss journey came in December when the reaction of his family members was “priceless”. “Hearing them acknowledge what I did for my health — and serving as an example for all others — was really life-affirming.”
